How to Read Call Numbers

Other Call Numbers

Some materials utilize a different kind of call number system in our library.

Videos

Videos on Disc (DVD or Blu-ray)

DVD #####
This call number indicates that this is a video on disc. This could include Blu-ray discs; if so, it will appear at the end of the call number (i.e. DVD 2306 Blu-ray). Bring this call number to the front desk for a staff member to retrieve the video. The pink link location will indicate what type of disc it is (DVD or Blu-ray) as well as if it is library use only (see examples below).

Video Tapes (VHS) 

VIDEO ###
This call number indicates that it is a video tape rather than a disc. Most of these items have the following location: Storage: Videotapes - ask at front desk. Bring this call number to the front desk for a staff member to retrieve the video.

Films (16mm)

FILM AA##
This call number indicates that it is a film in our collection. Most of these items have the following location: 16mm Films - SAIC faculty may schedule classroom screenings. These items require special arrangements to be viewed, so email the call number to flaxman@saic.edu to see what's possible. 

Audio

Audio CDs

AUDIO CD ####
Most of these items are located in the Main Collections on the 6th floor, but some are in storage. If you need help finding a CD, let us know at the front desk!

Cassette Tapes

TAPE ####
These items will have the following location: Storage: Audio Tapes - ask at front desk. Bring this call number to the front desk for a staff member to retrieve the tape. We have media viewing / listening stations in the library to play these materials if needed.

Vinyl LPs

AUDIO .[Library of Congress call number]
These items will have the following location: Vinyl LPs - ask at front desk. Bring this call number to the front desk for a staff member to retrieve the LP. We have media viewing / listening stations in the library to play these materials if needed.
