How to Identify Scholarly Articles

Screenshot of article page with red numbers and outlines.

  1. The author's credentials are clearly listed in the article.
  2. Often leads with an Abstract summarizing the contents.
  3. Scholarly articles are very formulaic, starting with an introduction section and ending with a conclusion section.
  4. The text is often using elevated or specific language (i.e. jargon or technical terms). Also notice there are NO ADVERTISEMENTS; this is often a very quick indicator that it is scholarly.
  5. References will always be cited, either at the end of the article or in footnotes.
