Thank you to the CRIT team for the content of this page.

.How can/should faculty utilize teleconferencing generally and Zoom specifically?.

  • Zoom is an online conferencing and collaboration software platform that can help faculty with online curriculum delivery. You can use this tool for a simple phone conference or a full video collaboration including chat, desktop sharing, and annotation, using just a browser or the available desktop or mobile client.
  • If you do not already have a personal Zoom Basic account, you can request a new account via Computer Resources and Information Technologies (CRIT) at canvas-help@saic.edu and include the following: (1) First and last name (2) Preferred SAIC email address, not artic (3) Primary teaching department.
  • If you already have a Zoom account under a saic.edu email. We can transfer that account to the School and you will receive unlimited meeting duration. Send an email to canvas-help@saic.edu with the address of your account and we will make the necessary updates.

.What are the ownership rights of created online content?  Where do we find a statement to this effect?.

.Is the Panopto tutorial available somewhere?.

  • Panopto is a lecture capture tool that instructors can use to record and publish presentations online. It is able to capture audio, webcam video, PowerPoints, and desktop screens. It is a good tool to record narrated PowerPoints and computer tutorials.
  • In some cases, faculty have an older version of the recommended operating system for the Panopto application. If this is the case, please contact canvas-help@saic.edu and you will be sent an older version of the installer.

.Do students have access to Panopto for uploading their own videos and recording their screens?

  • You'll need to create an Assignment folder in Panopto.
  • You can do this by clicking "Course Videos" at the left navigation, then click the gear icon at the far right. Then click the "Create Assignment Folder" link. Once you do that, students will have access to create videos and upload them to that folder. They will not see any other videos in that folder. Only their own.
  • There is a permission to allow them to see their peers' videos. If you would like to turn this feature on please canvas-help@saic.edu
